Had a choice to choose to do research on Subcultures and Styles, The Urban Traveller or Cultural Communities/Identity and from the research and the lectures we had to an image and a fashion piece, which would be put on an online art gallery.
The module began with 3 lectures:
Lecture 1, 1900-1929
- Briefing of project
- Research into the subjects covered in the lectures
- Subject discussion with my study group.
Lecture 2,1930-1969
- Research into the subjects covered in the lectures
- Subject discussion in my study group.
Lecture 3, 1969 to present
- Research into the subjects covered in the lectures.
- Subject discussion in study groups.Briefing of Presentation
I enjoyed all the lectures, as it was interesting to learn about fashion history. After the lectures we had to decide on the subject we wanted to do research on, I choose to research on Cultural Identity as I thought it would be a very interesting subject to do research on and I also wanted to see weather it would work combining two cultures together because studying cultures and the meanings and messages behind certain cultures is very interesting. My main focus was on African tribes and Japanese Culture and at the end of my research I was going to create a garment that incorporated both African tribes and Japanese culture.
My Final images show that I linked both African tribe and Japanesse Cultures together, I used african print fabric to make a contemporary skirt with silk fabric. I also dressed my model with african Jewellery and made a fan in African Print fabric. To show the Japanesse link in my images and model I did Geisha Make-up on my model as I did research on the messages and meanings behind geisha make-up. Overall I liked the outcome of the pictures.
