Creative Approaches To Fashion

The brief was container culture; we had a list of words/phrases and an artist to choose from. I choose the word ‘slash and burn’ and Hussein Chayalan as an artist. And as an end product we a to create a garment from plain garments: Shirt/blouse, one pair of trousers and one bag.

Out of studio work:
On a minimum paper size of A3, using different kinds of paper (wallpaper, brown paper etc. Draw using the following exercises
  • Continuous line with a felt tip
  • Drawing with your eyes closed
  • Draw with one hand you dont usually write with
  • Three different media on the same drawing
  • Attach a pen to a paint brush

AFTER READING WEEK:

  • Line & porportion
  • CAD manipulation of my work
  • Drawing dressed figures

These are images are drew using different techniques of drawing: black paper and white chalk & pen attatched to a paint brush. I then worked on these images on CAD.

These images are from my research work using slashed and burnt fabrics as garment on illustrations. As well as looking at Hussein Chayalan I also looked at Giambattista Valli.

These are my final images of my garment with 'it fell from the sky' as my inspiration.

Overall I enjoyed the brief , it was my first given brief at University. However It would have been a very successful project it I was more imagative with the word slash and burn and my final image aswell.
